This ring was made in the early Victorian era, circa 1850. The naturalistic scrolling leaf detail to the shoulders is a very typical design feature of the period, the intricate detail achieved using chasing and repoussé techniques where the design is hammered and embossed to create fine detail in sculptural relief. The combination of turquoise and pearls was a popular engagement ring choice; pearls signified beauty while turquoise symbolised true love.
