This piece dates to the late Victorian era, a period in English history defined by the reign of Queen Victoria, from 1837 to 1901. Brooches became more delicate and feminine in appearance towards the end of the 19th century, as lighter flowing materials became fashionable in ladies dress. Pins were worn in abundance and took on a multitude of different designs and motifs. Diamonds and pearls remained the favoured gemstones of the period, the soft sheen of the pearls and bright sparkle of the diamonds creating a beautifully romantic style.
