This piece was made during the Victorian era, circa 1900. Jewellery of the late 19th century was characterised by a lightness and delicacy which continued in popularity into the Edwardian period. The flowing ribbon design is in the elegant style of the French Belle Epoque, with the influence of Art-Nouveau design characterised by intricate linear designs, flowing curves and stylised, elegant shapes. Designers took their inspiration from nature, and the fluid lines and shapes alluded to life and movement.
